The island enjoys an intense Mediterranean climate with long, warm and dry summers from mid-May to mid-October. The winters are mild and sometimes rainy , lasting from December to February. Summers and winters in Cyprus are separated by short autumn and spring seasons.

North Cyprus is normally two heours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), and seven hours ahead of Eastern Standard Time (EST).

The official language is Turkish but English is widely used and understood by locals.

The official currency is Turkish Lira (TL) however Euro, Dollars and English Sterling is highly accepted.

In North Cyprus, traffic flows on the left, the traffic signs are international and seat belts must be worn at all times. Maximum speed is 100km/hr and vehicles entering North Cyprus must be insured upon arrival.

The code for Northern Cyprus is +90 followed by 392 and Cypriot number for land lines or followed by 533 or 542 and Cypriot number for mobile numbers. Public telephone booths are available and telephone cards can be purchased from the Telecommunications Offices.

A good, inexpensive network of buses and minibuses operates between all the main towns. In addition, there are shared taxis operating on the same routes. Taxis are also widely available and they do carry meters.

The beaches of Northern Cyprus are among the cleanest and safest in the Mediterranean. The average water temperature is 24C between May and October. There are private and free beaches available most offering excellent service in terms of eating and drinking facilities as well as beach umbrellas and sunbeds. Some also offer water sports activities.

A wide range of accommodation is offered in North Cyprus ranging from 5-star-hotels, hotel-bungalows, hotel-apartments to camping and self-catering apartments and villas.

This service is available in all main towns and most hotels. A valid British or International Driving License is required. Rental cars have red number plates.

A large selection of restaurants exists, ranging from aditional cuisine to fashionable European and Asian cuisine restaurants.

Night life has something to offer for everyone. Cities like Nicosia, Kyrenia and Famagusta offer a colourful night life.

Tourist information offices are available in all the majortowns and routes. Tour Guides, Hotel Receptionists, Taxi Drivers and locals are also a good source of information.
